Collin 00:05
Welcome to Oh, brother, a podcast of three brothers trying to figure it all out with your hosts, Brandon, Collin. And Aaron. On this week's show, stream of consciousness mode.
Aaron 00:28
does sound good? Yeah. What are you doing? Nothing. It's doing the same thing again. We're after like, flip over to a different screen. Hold on. Let me try that better.
Collin 00:57
You and your phone?
Aaron 01:00
Yes. Okay. Every time I try to use my laptop, it takes like 20 years to load. Ain't nobody got time for that?
01:15
Yeah.
01:20
The switch better is bringing him his way. Could be,
Brandon 01:24
I think.
01:32
Do
01:43
you have? Oh, do you have to, um, dog sitting things now, Colin? Why do you have two Instagrams? Well,
Collin 01:57
we have a litter confessional, which is the food, which is the podcast. And then we have a funky bunch Petcare, which is the actual petting business. Hmm. So that's why we have to. We don't. Okay, yeah. So we don't advertise our pet sitting services on cutter confessional.
Aaron 02:18
Yeah, because that's the Yeah, buy pet sitters for pets. So that's why we have two separate ones. Okay. That makes sense now. And Megan runs all of that. I Katie bought the picture that was was posted on because I started following the other one. It was it was your picture of what was it? Like? Hi, I'm killing I'm the co founder or the CO owner of like, Oh, wow. Yeah, Holly. Well, we did that.
Collin 03:07
Basically, we did that whenever for our pets or conventional one. Megan had one a couple days ago to post those every now and then. Or has like
03:21
a it does. Hey, we're real people. Yes, people buy from people.
03:31
There's not a person. Nobody's gonna buy it. It's a very true statement. Wow. You guys have been open.
Aaron 03:43
I've always wanted like the was it like the the hard like box set of like, The Walking Dead series? Oh, yeah. Yeah, that are or scrubs. One of my other random shows that I like but scrubs is on like, it's on am on Netflix. So I can just watch that. But I've always like, nowadays, definitely. When I was in college, I was like, oh, man, I got to get the box sets of things. But after like moving so many times, I'm like, I don't I don't want to box things anymore. I don't I don't want that though. Cuz then I had to put it put it somewhere. Yeah.
Collin 04:31
Yeah, the only box that we ever owned was that. Oh, I take that back. We've owned two we've run the box of last, which is Megan's all time favorite television show. And we owned the
Brandon 04:45
Oh, no. Oh, no.
04:47
Oh,
Collin 04:48
I did my brain just completely.
04:52
Drop that.
Brandon 04:58
Wow, man. And you've probably because you're using the past tense so that means you have sold it and do not own it anymore. So you don't know. Well,
Collin 05:08
King of Queens, we owned a Bach that have. Oh, really? Yeah. Which is another one that
05:17
we we both
05:18
that's definitely underrated.
05:21
Yeah.
Brandon 05:22
Leah Remini is a gym in that series I gotta say
05:27
is awesome. Awesome. Awesome.
Collin 05:31
The joke that we still hold that one. The gentleman who played Arthur dad. Yeah, when he talks about he's gonna get pizza from the local Domino's, just around the corner. He keeps talking it up. He loves her breadsticks. They're like, me, Domino's. Domino's.
Brandon 05:53
Whatever, fine. I agree with Aaron that partially the box set things are annoying, because you have to like, they're big.
06:05
Right? Because I mean, like,
Brandon 06:08
eight disks in a thing. And so they are kind of cumbersome and big.
06:14
But also,
Brandon 06:16
there's something mildly reassuring about owning physical media. Yeah, because like, a lot of times, it's just like, I want to watch this thing. Gone. Sorry, doesn't exist anymore. Like, but but I want to see the way do come on now.
06:32
Where are you going?
Brandon 06:34
Are you gone? So like, cuz for a while, like Amazon had all the old Top Gear episodes on there. Yeah. And I downloaded a bunch of them for the plane fried to Australia a couple years ago. Yeah. And now, because they don't have them on there anymore. It's like, Nope, can't have it. Don't doesn't exist. You lost all access to the thing even though you downloaded it. You can't watch it. Nope. Because you don't own it. So there's that, like, there's that aspect. It's super annoying. And sometimes you want to find the thing.
07:10
And you can't.
Brandon 07:12
Or they put it behind the paywall of a different service that you don't use. And you're like, I don't want to use another one. Yeah, I just want to watch a 10 Minute. Yeah. Like, I don't want to be subscribed to 18 things, right? It's not the exact opposite. You lied to me. You're like, Oh, it's better than satellite or cable. Right? Because you can get all the stuff you want to watch here except for you can't because now, everybody started their own streaming services to compete with Netflix because they saw Netflix making all the money and they're like, wait, wait, we own this. What if we have our own service? Now you gotta Subscribe, Like 80 things to watch all the shows that you could have just watched on cable all
Collin 08:03
your like, like, wait, so how much does it pay for cable before? And now my all cart is I'm really not living a whole lot more money. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome.
08:13
Yeah.
Brandon 08:14
And we so we just still use we still have like dish or whatever. Because, you know, yeah, it's just not good. Yeah, well, it's fine.
Collin 08:25
It's fine.
Brandon 08:29
There's, again, the old man in me, there's something like,
08:35
I don't know if it's like the static, or like, like, mildly, like,
Brandon 08:44
kind of the unknown of like, I'm gonna watch TV now. It's like a surprise, right? It's some extent of like, what is it? But what am I going to watch? Right? That's kind of like, as grown up, you know? That was kind of the fun. Not fun. It was kind of annoying, right? When you had five channels. And you just had to pick something. Right? He had no idea and just watch it could. Could be good. And without Who knows?
09:10
I had no idea what was actually coming up. Yeah, I
Brandon 09:13
mean, there was no guide at all. There was an adventure, right, looking back on it seems adventurous at the time, I have distinct memories of being like, Oh my gosh, why is there terrible things all the time, right? But there's that kind of sense of like, I'm gonna watch something, I gotta find something. And so like, you know,
09:35
if you're gonna watch,
Brandon 09:37
you know, this, if you're gonna watch TV while you eat or whatever, you're like, I gotta find something to watch or I have free time. I want to watch TV. I'm just gonna watch it. So sometimes you have to go out of your comfort zone and like, I'm just gonna watch this. I don't know what this is. Let's watch it, see what it is. Let's give it a shot.
Collin 09:56
What is true, it is true. You know, when you're like when you're just starting To try and figure out, or I don't know, I guess I do like a bit of a, you don't know what's gonna happen next and you just kind of be guiding, being guided along on the journey. Almost, I guess, you know, like, what are you gonna discover like, what's next? Because sometimes it's like, well, I would never intentionally sit down and try and find this movie, but I am now watching it and I am very invested in.
Brandon 10:25
Yeah, just because it happened to be on and right. Like you hear about the I don't have this problem because I don't have Netflix. Right. But you, you know, the scrolling paralysis of you just sort of sit down to watch something and you just scroll forever, because you can't figure out what you want to watch. Yeah, like with TV, it's just on so you're like, well, I got to watch something now. Because otherwise I'm gonna miss because it's happening in real time when you can't like start it whenever. Yeah, that's the the upside, I guess is like, well, it's on right now. So I gotta watch it.
Collin 10:57
Yeah, yeah. The paralysis of choice right? Sometimes. A lot of options is very good. If you are Collin Funkhouser options or Verve are bad. Because you start to second guess yourself and Is this what you want to be watching? Well, what about this other one? Did you really like all aspects of this? What are you missing? Right? Then obviously, you get this aspect of like, I could be missing other things right now. or spending my time watching this while this other thing is also out there. So yeah, all that ugly picked a logo, or Mike?
Brandon 11:36
Hey, after,
Collin 11:38
after much gnashing of teeth and bloodshed. And only only mild fighting and yelling between go.
Brandon 11:48
Mostly if it would have just been happening in real time he was had to pick one and gone with it no matter what. See,
Collin 11:53
this is the this is I know, I hand on heart. It cuts the point where I was basically paralyzed by choice and possible impossibilities, right of being them being nigh on Infinite of things that could be done of like, I mean, I was getting to the point where I was like, Well, I don't know, if I like the curvature of funky bunch in here. Maybe it needs to be there. And that's like, what if we brought that in by five degrees? Which Megan was like, you have to pick something or I'm going to make something and start posting it everywhere. And you'll just have to live with it,
Brandon 12:25
though. At that point in it, Megan, do it.
Collin 12:27
I was just like, I was like, Okay, fine. Like, ultimately, just like, whatever. Like, I'm still not 100% happy with it.
12:37
Whatever.
Collin 12:39
It's it is it is made, it is being finalized. There we go, though.
Brandon 12:46
Whatever. There we go. You could have just done the Yeah, she's had her pick one and go with it. And just like like, like, with the old Saturday movies, like late night, Saturday movies on network television, it was just a movie.
13:05
We'll go
13:07
I think it's gonna be here Lego.
Collin 13:09
Genuinely, I would have had a much more pleasant experience. If, if that's what had been done at the beginning of life, give me some give me some ideas of what your business is, what kind of emotions you're trying to do, I'm going to go create kind of like a swatch of possibilities, and we're going to talk about it. Like, that would have been a lot more helpful to me, then
13:34
give me what you want.
Collin 13:36
Because then it was more like, I'm trying to do all the design work, but I'm not a designer. And, and I'm just trying to get him to make it. So anyway, I feel like the process when we redesign this in another year, because I can't live with it anymore. I'm gonna
Brandon 13:53
find somebody to be a two listeners for your favorite and your favorite corner. Oh, brother podcast, Collins logo tribulations.
Collin 14:03
And then to make matters worse, it's like, okay, we finally like genuinely, like, four months of going back and forth on this logo, I think is where we ended up. And lots of pain and anguish and sleepless nights with me scrolling through what do I want the dog and cat to look like? So I'd scroll through options and like, save them. And I'm like, Well, I don't like this and I like this about this one. I don't know about this. Anyway. And then he's like, Oh, yeah, with the package that you got. You also get is like I'm also going to make you have Facebook banner. But what do you want that to look like? And it was like a no, no, no. Oh,
Brandon 14:49
coffin concept blue on blue. Dead.
Collin 14:53
Two. What we did was we went and we found somebody and we were like, do exactly this. And like, and I'm not gonna just make a copy of this don't use their photo, use a photo of us and just make literally exactly the same thing we did.
Brandon 15:11
College Facebook is some random dude. Like, this guy. I don't know, like, like the I just sold a copy of man I don't know, like the
Collin 15:21
standard or like the example picture that they have in frames like if you just Oh yeah.
Brandon 15:26
random random girl on swing. Yes. Right like guy walking that was like stock photos I love stock photos.
Collin 15:39
And then he was like, oh, also also, you get you get I will make you some service icon icons that are gonna match the services that you offer. And I was like, You mean, seven more logos?
Brandon 15:52
Awesome. Awesome. Wait, seven, or whatever services you
Collin 16:02
it was like five walking, boarding, house boarding dropins. Dog. Those are the four main ones.
16:11
That's what I mean.
Collin 16:15
Don't get me but then
Brandon 16:16
it was like see by on your neighbor's
Collin 16:18
creeper. You're pushing for $100? No, I'm just like, Okay, well, do we separate? Do we bring up cat sitting? Because we don't do
Brandon 16:28
that do we bring up that we'll do. Now because it's a pet. And you're a pet
16:32
sitter. Right? So that's implied.
Brandon 16:36
So you don't need a better logo. Well, we do rabbits, the cat, the goldfish, hamsters, and chilas. Birds.
Collin 16:49
So he wanted to create a iguanas, turtles, he called them icons. And I was like, You mean logo? It took me four months to come up with one logo, you want me to bring up five? So basically, I said, Make them and I don't even bother, like sending them back. I will just accept whatever.
Brandon 17:13
Fair problem. Go go back to this network TV thing just a moment because I had thought, that's fine. I want to know if anybody else has experience, or if it's me.
17:45
Because
Brandon 17:45
I used to do this where the I thought of it after I did the Saturday night movie thing because I just remembered that existed right now. Right? So used to they would just be like on like Fox or whatever. There was just, like late at night, they would just be like play a movie.
18:01
Yeah, right. And
Brandon 18:02
because there was no guide, it was really hard to know what on earth it was going to be or what it was. I watched the TV Guide in the newspaper didn't go that far. Right, it usually go that way. And so I have all these snippets of memories of movies, that I have no idea what they are. And I've never seen them again. Does anybody have any of you have that? Like, this happened to you? Would you like to stay up late with your friends or whatever we've like a we honor we are watching them while we're doing other stuff, you know, like playing video games or something. And it was on and we'd watch it and, and I have all these memories of parts of movies. And I have no idea what B is at all?
18:55
None. Okay, and I don't
Brandon 18:57
even know what the movies about. Really. I just like remember certain scenes
Collin 19:00
and parts of scenes.
Brandon 19:03
Right? Yeah, parts of C are like a thing a character did and that's it. And I have no other reference for what movie is. And sometimes it makes me a little crazy, because I don't know. And I don't really know how to find out what to
Collin 19:20
do you Google for that, right? Yeah.
Brandon 19:23
I've seen some random movies. Of course, the actor,
19:29
I don't know.
19:33
was a guy into lady with curly hair was a movie from the 90s I guess maybe or there's two.
Brandon 19:39
There's two. There's two specific ones. They have to share. Okay, just to get this out there because it drives me crazy. There's one and it's I don't the only part I remember is it's one of The guys from the show coach. Right coach, and not the bay all dumb guy.
20:08
The other guy, like, frat guy,
Brandon 20:11
um, it was him. And he's in a river. And a log falls on him. And he's trapped. And the water is like rising or something. And there's a person who is trying to like keep him alive by giving him mouth to mouth in the water. He dies. spoilers for this mystery movie they don't know. Wow. And it's like this really big Radek thing. And that's the only part of the movie. Is this part? I don't know. It was like, I have no idea what this movie is. I don't know why they're in a river. I don't remember who the other person is. I don't know how the logs I don't know why the rivers rising because that seems weird. Like, it's not a flood because the water is like clear. Right. And he can see his face the whole time. So I don't understand what's happening. If it's raining, raining, I don't know. But it's this whole thing. where that is the only thing I remember says dystrophies Yeah, no, no. Right.
21:21
Like, what on? How
Collin 21:22
do you even?
Brandon 21:26
Yeah, I have to Google that. I don't know what to do. But at least I remember the guy's name. The other one that I remember. is,
21:35
I don't know. It's about
Brandon 21:37
like Barnstormer like air air show thing. With like, biplanes and stuff.
21:45
Like a stunt pilot.
Brandon 21:48
That's all I remember. I remember there's a scene where I think they crash at some point.
21:55
And it's like,
Brandon 21:58
I vaguely recall. It's like, that thing where the movies like something happens at the beginning. And then they're like, worried about it forever. And then it like re happens at the end. You know? I'm talking right. Like, yeah, yeah, the worst thing that could possibly happen then it happens. Like this is another like traumatic movie moment here. So that the plane, I don't know, there's all this weird stuff. I think there was a girl probably I don't know. But they're, like barnstormers air shows by planes, like old timey, whenever the plane crashes. And it's catches on fire. And the guy's friend is like, in there. They can't get him out now. And so he's alive. What he's like conscious and like burning, you know, and they can't get him out. So to put him out of the desert, they like, knock him out with a two by four on the barn that he crashed through, so that he can like die peacefully in the plane. Sleeping in agony. There was that part. And there was another part like about a stunt like doing a wing lock thing or something? I don't remember exactly. But yeah, these vague movies, movies, a weird movie about barnstorming airplanes. And a guy killed. Yeah, I definitely don't know how to Google.
23:27
I can't say I have any of those kind of dances.
Brandon 23:34
Dang it just me. Yeah. No, Aaron.
Aaron 23:38
I I'm I was trying to I was kind of transfixed on Brandon's airplane. And for some reason, My mind went to some like, Disney movie. Or it's like people that like crash on a mountain. And then for some reason that transported my brain to the book patchett that we had to read in like Middle School in
Brandon 24:01
like sixth grade special hats.
Aaron 24:03
Yeah, I just I just kind of stopped listening because I was like, man, like, what was that movie? Man, it would suck. Man. Do you remember patch it? The cruiser?
Brandon 24:15
It's crazy. That took me to another Middle School classic of that survivorman episode where he stirred stuff in the frozen north. Oh, anyway, it was
Aaron 24:25
it was the the Klondike or something where like it's it's like the kid and he has a dog and a sled and they go try to do prospecting stuff in Alaska. Now under that one, uh, yeah, my brain was transfixed on a lot of books like that or they're trying to remember the the plot of hatchet so I completely zoned out. It's fair.
Brandon 24:55
All I remember Roger is yes playing crash. That one party finds the dead pilot in the plane these guys a hatchet stuff happened. Oh, that I remember the beginning of that book.
Aaron 25:12
And then there's like a bear attack but I was trying to explain the the yeah thing so I want to explain the plot in the book but bunnicula to show me.
25:24
I'm sorry.
25:25
Wow, this is a lot harder than I thought. All right. All right. All right.
Brandon 25:34
That's fair. That's a tricky one. Hold up. It's one of those words you like, it sounds like you're like oh yeah. And then when you start to see words that loud like, Oh, this this, this is a lot weirder.
Aaron 25:48
Shall we give me a blank stare the whole time. So basically, it's a book about a cat and a dog and their family and a family. bring home a rabbit, but strange events start happening and at night, and they find the key cutting vegetables that look white. I definitely were there's a white zucchini moment which I burst out laughing but it turns out that the bunny is some sort of fruit, vampire bunny. And the dog and cat try to get rid of the bite. I apparently there's a book series which I did not know about others. Just one bow I
Brandon 26:33
yeah, I play
Aaron 26:35
there. Yeah, there's a there's a part in the book where, cuz like, the cat is like can actually read it. It's like really into books. And he reads about like how to get rid of vampires. And it's like, oh, you take a stake to the heart. So they literally pull steak for the frigerator there's a picture drawn in the book where the the rabbit is like laying on its side and have like, a steak flopped over it. And there's a cat like counting the steak I have I
Collin 27:02
read this book
Aaron 27:05
in middle school or something ridiculous like that. But I'll try to explain that. To Shelby Yeah, same exact like, what are you what are you talking about? It's really cool. I promise. There's a bunny. It's red, and it's white. Really cool. Yeah,
Brandon 27:18
that was I could see the cover of that. But weirdly, in my mind right
Aaron 27:21
now. I think I have a copy of it somewhere. But I have all my books still packed up. Because I think I definitely might have taken that from the school that I was teaching at some point in my trophy. Yeah, sorry. I don't. I comply. All I heard was Brandon talking about a plane crash and then my brain just went
Brandon 27:51
elsewhere. You didn't miss a lot because it was very vague and confusing, and I don't really know. And I'm alone, because I'm the owner now. No, don't leave back. I didn't get off anything. Okay. I was getting ready to hit the HANG UP button. And now you're back. What the heck?
28:40
I don't understand what's going on. Okay, so
Brandon 28:44
I know Aaron Just got off right before.
Collin 28:51
And I was like, Oh, well, I'll just need to restart my personal meeting and click Start. And then it was like, Oh
Brandon 29:03
yeah, I was getting ready to hit the end button. And here you are. Cuz he just stopped. This is so strange. Lots of editing this week. Sorry, buddy.
Collin 29:19
That was the weirdest thing. I'm sitting here we're talking and I look over everything's up and running. And I'm and all of a sudden Skype or zoom just like crashes. It was it was mirrored. And then I didn't have internet connection for a while. And then I don't know what the
Brandon 29:40
heck that was. There. You're in Am I just gone away? I guess. Yeah. And the second you got off. I said out loud. All right, here it is. Just me get rid of stop. I heard college boys. Go The second you went away he came back because like I think he's internet just died. I think that's what happened. It wasn't me this time. And
30:14
that's exactly
Brandon 30:18
where we go. So to recap, all you missed, you can edit this part in here, like intermission time. We were just talking about Alaska that's all trying to figure out. We're trying to figure out Aaron has the same Aaron's memories don't involve movies. It's random books from sixth grade and or middle school that we read these like it's a book about a thing with a kid. And I don't know what's called.
Aaron 30:45
By the end of this podcast, I will think of this it's Klondike something.
30:51
What?
30:52
What
Collin 30:52
movie Klondike bar
30:54
like know,
Collin 30:56
what's the what's the book about the kid who hollows out the tree and lives in the tree with the hollows it out with fire or with like embers? Because he finds that old wood tree stump?
31:09
Anybody?
Brandon 31:11
Is that hatchet? I don't remember that. And he he
Aaron 31:13
is there's a part where he like he cuz he's like discovering like all the things that helped him like with survival. And 98% sure that is hatchet? Because he's like, he's doing like survival things that he's like, Oh,
Brandon 31:31
that's what white things about. I don't know. I said I remember the white penguins movie about snow and dogs and possibly Alaska and New York. I don't know the first thing you I thought of when you said kids and tree, I thought a Bridge to Terabithia and was like, Nope, that's not it. You said lived in the trees. Oh, no, that's wrong.
Aaron 31:59
Oops. Yeah. I didn't Yukon pulled up Calvin and Hobbes. Like that's not. Why not Cornelius. Oh, oh, also,
Collin 32:10
also wonderful TV show. Life below 00. My gosh, I cannot watch enough of that. Oh, people living in
Brandon 32:24
Alaska. I see a couple episodes of that. I like it. I used to watch. It's not on anymore. I don't know how long ago this is on. But we used to watch the show called flying wild Alaska. And it was about a guy that ran a plane service in Alaska because you have to fly everywhere. I don't remember what his name was anymore. But it was just kind of one of those shows. It was just like him and his family. And they had the they started like a small one back in the day. And now it's a pretty big regional airline that they have lots of lots of small planes and then they have some big ones that take cargo to villages and stuff. But that's what they do they fly everywhere.
Aaron 33:09
Cool. The thing you said that was that that what brought my brain back to that movie where the people have the geese and they try to fly home that it does
Collin 33:22
sound familiar rehabilitate the geese it was based on true story, right? They rehabilitate the geese, but they want to get them on a native migratory thing. So they get the air the ultra lights and they guide them with it on the thing Yeah.
Brandon 33:41
I forgot that movie existed
Aaron 33:43
in one I am one for seven and books today.
33:50
Are movies so men the wind column there we go. I will search for this dang book belongs to take you'll probably get a text message.
Brandon 34:04
Since we're in streaming of consciousness mode. I wonder you said the animal movies it brought me back to the most ridiculous animal movie of the 90s Yes, that's right ladies, gentlemen, the amazing panda adventure.
Aaron 34:20
Now what I thought you're going okay, okay.
Collin 34:24
I take Aaron Aaron your most extreme or most whatever animal movie the 90s and go oh,
Aaron 34:31
the thought of the magnitude now but I was thinking like secrets on them. Oh, wow.
34:37
There we go. That's older.
Aaron 34:38
Yeah. I thought you're talking about that. And I was like, I'm talking about like, super dark and depressing and scare my childhood secrets of them. And then secret to electricity Boogaloo.
Collin 34:49
I'm, I am going with Homeward Bound my Luna. This is a little older.
34:57
Oh, yeah.
35:00
I hear so much
Collin 35:07
legitimately one of the like, I think one of the core foundational movies
Aaron 35:14
I forgot about that movie called secrets of them. Oh 1982 Hold on,
Brandon 35:19
let me Yeah, it's older ones
35:21
find a 90s movie.
Brandon 35:23
That's fine.
Aaron 35:26
I'm sorry, I gotta keep talking, talking about my little notice and what they're missing out.
Brandon 35:35
You know, dog and cat zany adventures. There's a crab at some point.
Collin 35:38
Yes, that the cat gets pinched by specific Yes, specifically the dog is Otis.
Brandon 35:45
It is it does get ready to ask you which one's my load? Which one
Collin 35:50
is the Tabby and Otis is the pug. And they go on it. Really? Oh, the voiceover that the guy did they each have their own voices and that there's a crab that they get pinched by and, and at the end it's all very happy because they each end up having like the 10 families remember like the end of like, kittens and they're both so excited to be dads and go on an adventure and all this stuff is very cool.
Brandon 36:16
I don't remember the end of that movie. I remember the crab part
Aaron 36:19
and I were talking about animated animal movies that freaked us out that we were really really cool. I mean, we can rock doodle
Brandon 36:45
you know, that movie does get a lot a lot of crap right? A lot of people dog is like the worst of Don Bluth movies. They're like oh no, that's not the good dog Bluth movie all these like animation people like oh, no, he has much better work. Oh, like this not be gatekeepers of dainese animation, right like I do remember like it would be a lot when I was a kid. I think we watched it. I think we rented it from Smith video about 752 times. Just gonna have to imagine like, Dad taking us to the movie rental places like infinite movies on the wall. Brent the same three movies over? It's true. I found that movie entertainment. I own it now, by the way.
37:40
Oh, yeah.
Collin 37:42
I couldn't believe I got Christopher Plummer. Yeah, to be the Grand Duke in that movie. Yeah. Just like overcasting. Like, it's so good.
37:59
Yeah,
Brandon 37:59
I think Aaron and I watch a movie way too much. Because To this day, someone will say something like, what's that logo? lar? And then everyone's looked at me like I'm crazy. And all of a sudden now I'm Tim Conway. Great. Okay, but I do that all the time. They're like, what? Cuz no one else has seen that movie. I think it's me and you and Aaron. I know. Nobody else I've ever met has seen it. Nobody even people that like oh yeah, I love God not released. There was like the ghosts of Mr. Chicken. Or like the apple dump the games like Oh, man, you seem private eyes. Like no, like.
Collin 38:42
Come on. Yeah, to be clear, I was pointing out there Christopher Plummer was in Raka. doodle or not not done. Not privatized. Yes, I
Brandon 38:53
know. But I just got sidetracked with them.
38:56
I do know me and
Brandon 39:08
I just really liked that one. A lot of people haven't seen that one either. That's not a popular one.
39:19
Right? Like
Brandon 39:20
a lot of people you're like, oh man, because I've seen a lot of the other movies or that time and even other movies by him right after he left Disney. Like oh, man, you know this is great like the Nam and all those and they're like, oh, what about rocket dude? Like, huh? All right on sleeping on rocket doodle me doing. Aaron I think you should probably summarize the plot for all the listeners who have also not seen rock anymore.
Aaron 39:57
I don't know if I can ask the crowd. Oh boy howdy something about a kid that gets turned into a cat and then like, trying to get him a home's real world in in chance Claire is a magical seeing rouzer data
40:23
slash Elvis
40:26
person, though. There's a little bit of that going on they go. And yeah, that's kind of
Brandon 40:34
why I do remember why they need to declare. Why does the rooster have to crow? He brings he brings the sun up, right because it's raining and it's nighttime and then owls are coming or something.
Collin 40:44
And reformer wants to plunge the world into total perpetual darkness so that the animals will not be shunned and kept in darkening barns during the day that they may rule. Yes.
Brandon 40:55
Because as you know, the sunlight burns owls till they die. Apparently they're like, ghosts or troll or something. They literally can't be designed. But they Yes, that's what they do. They that's the movie. Basically. They have to, they have to convince the rooster to stop being Elvis to come to the farm so he can grow so that the sun could cover the owls won't rule.
41:32
Yes, that is exactly. You say?
Brandon 41:37
It's like what do you say? The plot of bunnicula out loud like this. That's better really against that I promise. Ah good sound toys that it is really good. Give it a shot find it, watch it.
42:03
It's really good
Collin 42:04
to include links to this definitely is a real thing.
Brandon 42:11
It's not just making it we did not just fall out of too many trees as children. We also did that but
Collin 42:17
is it not related? You can have both This is what's nice. I'm just reading these quotes from private eyes. And just so absurd what he just returned reading the plain face,
Brandon 42:39
though they're in the movie. That's like it's that's the best part about it. They're absurd. With no context. They're absurd. With all the context they still don't make any sense.
42:52
Give us your favorite one. Oh,
Collin 42:54
no, I'm just remembering the one where was it? to Dr. tart. The other key thing is that they keep pigeons. He says yeah, he goes you know what I think? I think there's someone here who doesn't want anyone to know that there's someone here who might be someone that the killer inspector WinZip for a short person you have long sentences Yes, inspector WinZip you better get a pigeon in case we have to contact the yard Dr. tart right. I'm gonna take Judy apparel it's been a little under the weather lately stools building loose inspector winds up. That's too bad. I'll have to put a get well card at the bottom of it. But it's the way livered right these these are
Brandon 44:05
It was a dead pan right? It's just like straight. So
44:12
I think that's the I think that's why
Brandon 44:16
like I don't often gel with a lot of comedy movies. Right? And I think it's because like zany over the top silliness is just not really always my speed about like, saying absolutely stupid things a deadpan serious manner could just be so fun.
Collin 44:32
He needs me every time right it's like
Brandon 44:42
it's why I've never been like a Will Ferrell fan, right because it's so shouty like loud and ready round and all that stuff. Like all his coffee is like physical comedy, you know, which is its own thing. This is not my favorite but Dr. snippy likes Smart comment that I love it. It's a gift. It's my favorite part. Yeah.
Collin 45:05
I guess it you know, that's more of a Monty Python, Monty Python style humor as well. Yeah, like this very deadpan, or I'm even thinking of like Young Frankenstein where you go,
Brandon 45:15
yeah, we're like visual jokes like it's just underplayed. And it's just like the visual irony of what's happening.
Collin 45:22
You're pulling two things in juxtaposition and just presenting it. Yes, yes. And then moving on. As an audience, you're left to like, it's like, yes, audience I know, you were smart enough to pick up on this. And you're going to recognize it. This is absurd, but we don't have to point it out. And yeah, this on the head, like things happening in the background, or things happening off the side, or like, these kind of things. Like, it allows you to like, I don't know, I just I really appreciate that. Anyway,
Aaron 45:52
that's kind of so I actually watched a clue the other day. Oh, very, and all that. And I was sitting there and I was like, I forgot how much like an adorable film. This is. Just because it has it just like everything the way the whole thing is presented the whole, you know, the way that it's done. The way that it was kind of one of those first movies that provided alternate endings. That's my favorite fact about that movie. Yeah. And that.
Brandon 46:30
Is it was it eight innings is that movie?
46:32
Oh, yeah, there's
Brandon 46:34
something out there. There's like six or eight endings. And like, different theaters got different versions of the movie with different endings? Yeah. So when people talk about they'd be like, oh, on the end, and other people go,
46:51
what does the lab
Brandon 46:54
because they didn't advertise it. That was happening. Yeah, right. It would just sort of people figured it out slowly. Over time. It wasn't like a thing. Like it wasn't part of the marketing, which I think is genius. Right, just do it. And then get me to talk about an asteroid. That's that was. That's good. That's so fun. Yeah, that's a good one, too. I haven't seen that movie a long time.
Aaron 47:23
Yeah. Like oh, that was one of my cuz I think I actually watched it with like, you guys. And you're all like, I think I remember definitely hearing about the whole like, Oh, it's you know, it has multiple endings. I was like, What? No, who has ever done that before? And so I just, I just remember, that was like, one of the coolest things that I movie wise. I was like, Oh, yeah,
Brandon 47:53
I didn't learn about I didn't learn about that till like much later after, because I saw it when I was kid. Right? Because that movie is older. A little bit then. Then us. So like, I just saw it. It was like, Oh, that's fun movie. And then later, I found that I was like, Wait, what? That's amazing.
48:11
Yeah. What else? another random movie like that in there?
Brandon 48:27
I don't know. There's not enough silly detective comedies though. Now that I'm thinking about it. Let's try to think of some more. I am coming up short. Right? It's either like, I
48:40
can't think of anything else.
Brandon 48:46
Have you seen dead men don't wear plaid. No. I made us watch that movie. She's mad at me.
48:58
It's a it's
Brandon 49:00
a it's the only other steel detector company I can think of currently. It's, it's like a Noir. film. It's shot like a noir film.
49:11
Okay, but it's, it's Steve Martin. That,
Brandon 49:15
okay, play detective. And the gag of the movie is that he's acting and like, it's him doing all this stuff like this really big, convoluted ridiculous. noir story, right? That's just silly, and ridiculous. And it has all the weird Steve Martin jokes that you're expecting. But this movie is intercut with other famous noir movies. So like Humphrey Bogart is in this movie. It's clips from Old Navy Berger movies from the 40s. Right, like Bette Davis is in this movie, but it's just like oh my gosh. So they work. They they basically came up with like Rob Reiner. wrote it helped write this movie. And it's very clear. But yeah, but like, they basically came up with the plot of the story to shoehorn in as many scenes from classic noir films as possible. Just so it's like, you're just like, doing whatever. And he's like, they'll do it like he'll be outside. Going to talk to somebody, and he'll knock on the door. And so that one scene is him out in the hallway, knocking on the door. Yeah, and he's talking through the door. But then, you know, the camera flips to the other side of the room. And that is the scene from the 40s movie with the dude like yelling back. I'm not common. And it's like some famous scene from a movie. And it Steve Martin playing off this famous scene as cool, because like, every time he talks to Humphrey Bogart, he's talking to him on the phone. So it's all these scenes of Humphrey Bogart at a payphone or at a phone in the office. Like they're never like face to face. He's always on the phone.
51:02
That's awesome.
Brandon 51:04
If I like it, just because it's silly, and completely ridiculous. It has all these really hilarious, like situations that they just shoehorned in to make it like funny, you know? And as soon as it was on,
51:18
she did not like. She's like, what
Brandon 51:21
the heck is this? Like, it's fine.
51:28
I was trying to think of more
Collin 51:31
movies that kind of have that deadpan delivery. And I think one of the ones for me, one of the first ones that fit in this vein was Best in Show. Oh, yeah. Right. Where it's kind of like this Maki, not Nestle, a mockumentary, but kind of Well, basically. Yeah, back to the mockumentary where they're following the each each group of people with their dog that are going to go to a dog show effectively and the just, you know, the guy with two left feet and how that plays into how he dances and I don't know, you know, like, I used to name ever kinda none all that pain. Yeah, like just insane things like these deep these characters are just so off the ball. Okay, I can I can take
52:23
the
Brandon 52:25
because it's like completely unscripted. Almost just like I just go with it improv something go out what is so ridiculous.
Aaron 52:36
There's, there's one movie that I do enjoy. That's kind of like that, but it's like, what we what we do in the shadows or something. And that documentary esque kind of thing about the vampires.
Brandon 52:53
Oh, like I mean, this
52:55
is this is that I'm I'm just only Oh no, I can't think of his name. Um
Aaron 53:08
but it's been it's been a long time since I have seen it. But there is there's a new series out that has like Tyco ytt in it, I think right? But I can't I cannot think for the life of me like what the hell because that was one of the ones that was what appear on like
53:42
what Be it Oh no, that one doesn't 14 oh we know the shadows.
Aaron 53:51
Yeah, ego diggin and last love or vampires who are finding a modern life has them struggling with mundane like paying rent keeping up with tour we will try to get into nightclubs overcoming flatmate issues. So has a Jemaine Clement, the guy from Collider, the condors anti qotd, isn't it?
Brandon 54:19
Definitely not seen this? Oh, yes.
Aaron 54:23
Yes. Yeah. So if you get a chance. It's it's a Maki not a mockumentary? What is it called? A documentary ask but I guess it's a mockumentary.
Brandon 54:38
But it's fake. It's silly. I think that's called a documentary. Yeah, it
Aaron 54:43
is about you know, the life of a vampire in in modern time, then. No, things like that. Which is, I don't I don't remember where were watched it or how I started watching it, but I was like, this is a documentary about vampires. Of course I watch it.
Brandon 55:09
I miss that one. Yeah, I do also like fly the Concorde. So that's good stuff.
Aaron 55:13
Yeah. Yes. If you ever get a free chance, though, that one. Okay. I'll try to rip. Yeah, it's not exactly high on people's list. What if you do that?
Brandon 55:32
So I like lots of movies like that. They're like, I just watched randomly, right? Again, it was kind of that thing of like, you know, it was either on or I was just at a back in the day when you had to go to the video rental place. There's like this one. or watching this one now. Yeah, go know what it is. I like lotteries from there. There's a couple that I've that I found on accident that I really like. Just because like I want this one. Let's see what it is. I don't know. Brother had the wolf. Good example. I like the movie. And I just picked it up randomly from the movie rental plays rogersville though. Yeah. Like what does? Oh no, watch it?
56:22
No, but we are watching right now. Awesome.
Brandon 56:33
There's another one. My camera the name. I also bought it later. But it's not funny or comedy. It's a good Chinese action movie. So that's conversation for another day. But
Aaron 56:46
this was a long time ago. Brandon, but what was the movie? About to like assassins?
Brandon 56:54
That's the movie. I was just thinking
56:58
to assassins and they are like, at the end of the movie that's like them
Aaron 57:08
by trying to kill each other we're trying to like fight over a girl or something. Oh, yes. They recreate
Brandon 57:16
the enemies ridiculous because they final duel. To find out who's the best assassin. One of them recreates the arcade game Metal Slug in a warehouse. Okay, yes, that and they play as the characters. The movie is full time killers. And it's B it's great. Okay, it's amazing. Right? That would be so good. Yeah. I love it so much. It makes me so happy. That's why I was just an accident because I was like, Oh, I like these kind of movies. Let's watch this one. Yeah, it's full time killers.
57:56
Yeah, that one?
Brandon 57:59
Yes, exactly. See, Aaron was there. I think Cory and I were like, what's where this movie? And Aaron's, like, Can I watch this? Like, sure. We're watching it right now.
58:14
That would be good. Weird tastes and movies over here.
Brandon 58:20
It's fine. We can talk about that beloved for Hong Kong Chinese cinema at some other time. But that doesn't fit the vibe in this conversation. Currently, it's a whole other side rail thing and we put it on the list.
58:38
We're adding it
Brandon 58:42
to the Hong Kong cinema and why it's the best
58:48
thing I'm adding that
Collin 58:49
after, after the mall concert horror stories, cake wars food shows. And now we have
Aaron 58:57
Yes, he said that. And then I thought of the ombak Thai warrior.
59:01
Also a great one.
59:06
list and that's fine.
Brandon 59:11
We can come back to this whole sub genre later. Martial. We can call that martial arts first, right?
Collin 59:18
It is interesting how I'm looking at these movies and similar the similar tastes of like, what we think as few as comedy. What that funny. Do you think that's just because, like, Mom and dad made us watch it, you know, allowed us to watch private eyes and these other things or or where did that come from?
Brandon 59:48
I mean, I guess it almost has to Well, I don't know because like we watch other stuff, too. Yeah. Right. But for some reason, we just gravitated towards that instead, right? Because there was we did watch other things and because I remember watching other things and going yeah, I don't like this very much, or I don't think this is funny as paradise right? I'm not really sure where that comes from. Right But like, good question because we watch we watch other stuff either there or like with friends or no other people and and even just other movies that were comedies but we're more on the like physical comedy, slapstick II side and it just never rang Same for whatever reason.
1:00:43
Right I don't know why.
Brandon 1:00:48
Other great deadpan comedy delivery By the way, Fletch, just remember that movie? Yes. It looks great.
Collin 1:00:57
Let me know it's fine.
Brandon 1:01:01
Like that we do about some of the stuff he says like we did that lady's little condo thing and she comes to the door, she's got a shower. And he goes, can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo.
1:01:17
Water Buffalo.
Brandon 1:01:21
Water. Like, Like what? Like? Yes. Like, what do you have, sir? Yes, I'll have a steak sandwich and a steak sandwich. Like
1:01:38
so ridiculous.
Collin 1:01:41
I'm thinking here of Young Frankenstein. Walk this way?
Brandon 1:01:45
Yes, we made China watch that movie. I think I mentioned that before. But she felt she was like, okay, it's fine.
Collin 1:01:54
I like it. Yeah. Again, just this the delivery, the physical, the physicality of many of this stuff.
1:02:08
I agree. Like it? Yeah,
Brandon 1:02:19
that's a good question. I think on that one of why. Maybe why that didn't resonate is the same as just a quippy funny
1:02:31
kind of humor,
Brandon 1:02:32
like the just that could be comment, like, in the deadpan delivery of absurd things. Right.
1:02:44
Yeah, I mean, it's to ponder.
1:02:45
Because again, it's just like, I think of all of the kind of things that we watched.
1:02:54
I just, you know, my
1:02:56
iPhone just comes up over and over in my head.
1:03:00
I was huge. For me.
Collin 1:03:03
That was, that was hilarious. I don't think I ever watched something by them and didn't think it was the funniest thing.
1:03:11
Yes. And I yeah,
Brandon 1:03:14
I don't know. I think it's the absurdism. Right, of just how silly It is sometimes, like, even the stuff from the Flying Circus, like the Ministry of Silly Walks, or like, the dead parrot thing. I love that. That's so great. Because it's so absurd. And but it's just talking, it's just not like, there's nothing else. They just, I mean, just whack the parrot on the counter was kind of funny, but like, it's just talking mostly. Yeah. As well as other things. Like, you know, firstly, that
1:03:49
a lot of the
Brandon 1:03:50
when the humor got taken to like the extreme again in the late 90s, early 2000s, with like, you know, Johnny Knoxville, and bam, Margera and all those guys from that crew, you know? Like, that was never really funny. To me. I didn't find it hilarious. Like, I'm gonna slap this guy real hard. Like, okay, why? Like,
Collin 1:04:20
and,
1:04:21
you know, like, Oh, I'm
1:04:23
gonna jump on top of this
Brandon 1:04:24
moving car. Like
1:04:27
why? Why?
1:04:30
And how would you do that? That
Brandon 1:04:31
seems dumb. Like I don't know. I never really liked it. You know, the same are like, Oh, this prank is so funny. Like, no, it's not
Aaron 1:04:46
any of like, I guess I don't know if I was just being spoiled of watching any of like the Mel Brooks. Movies, like the you know, history of the world. Which, by the way, whenever I had my religions of medieval class while in college the the professor was talking about that not you know, not not this the whole validity of, you know, the Spanish Inquisition. Um, and she makes and then she brought up and she's like, I can't remember what she what started up she's like oh, you know something something something odd to say. And I was like, isn't that what something that you do but you shouldn't anyway, and she laughed no one else think what you're doing anyway. But I like that minute ty. Yeah.
Brandon 1:05:45
Have you seen that? Have you seen the meme of the Spanish? The Spanish Inquisition memes, right? The ones that my favorite one is the unexpected item in the bagging area, and then it pans down and it's them
Aaron 1:05:59
in sorry, anyway, I need to find that place. The movies like that, where I definitely you know, when I was little watching them know, Monty Python, anything Mel Brooks like, I definitely did not fully grasp the humor of Blazing Saddles, until I was significantly older. But movies like that, that I watched over time, and I thought it was just really, really funny. And then yeah, watching anything, like with Johnny Knoxville, or, or anything like that. I was like, man, yeah, it's
Brandon 1:06:38
never it. Yeah, yeah, it doesn't hit the same, you know, just not like.
Aaron 1:06:45
But Quick, quick side note, um, after much searching the book that I was looking for 1000 hours ago. Oh, it's called Jason's gold.
Brandon 1:06:56
Jason's gold? I did not.
1:07:00
Yes. It was search to heart desire.
Brandon 1:07:04
I don't think I remember that.
1:07:08
It was it was one of those books that I that we read. And then, like,
Aaron 1:07:16
I was so into it that I bought it when I was younger, and then I just never finished it. Because like, we read it in school, and they're like, no, read it on yourself and draw your own conclusion. I was like, okay, and I just never finished it, but I always loved it. And I have a copy somewhere. But if not, I haven't saved on Amazon just in case.
Brandon 1:07:40
There we go. Okay. Sorry. What were you talking about? I don't know.
Aaron 1:07:45
I had to, I had to mute myself to the squeal of delight and utter Victoria sness.
Brandon 1:07:54
So very nice.
Aaron 1:07:55
Yes, I am. Waiting my my flag and in triumph.
Brandon 1:08:02
And now Now you're gonna have to finish it. That's the you've just set the task for yourself to finish that book. Figure out how it ends.
Aaron 1:08:13
The mystery? Oh, yeah, I thought let me go
1:08:24
by a
Aaron 1:08:28
bricks, anything with like that. I guess that's why I've became such a huge Melbourne Brooks fan is just because, you know, historically wise, I got the humor
1:08:40
was comedy just very smart.
1:08:42
Yes, it does.
Brandon 1:08:43
